{"id":627,"date":"2010-07-18T09:45:11","date_gmt":"2010-07-18T13:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/?p=627"},"modified":"2010-07-18T09:45:11","modified_gmt":"2010-07-18T13:45:11","slug":"still-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/still-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Still Life."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Still.\u00a0 Life.\u00a0\u00a0I am in\u00a0the midst of examining if art\u00a0 really does imitate life or\u00a0 if we are on the treadmill of imitating life-or what we think it is supposed to be.\u00a0 A dab of paint to spread across a very wide canvas-a smidgen of blue with a splash of yellow and there in the splotches-a smattering of purple.Vibrant royal purple.\u00a0 And yes, I chose those colors on purpose to complete the landscape in my own mind.<\/p>\n<p>Forever and a day since forever I can remember, there has been someone-anyone- telling me to still my mind- just for once.\u00a0 To take a yoga class, sit in meditation, or perhaps take a long walk in the woods in the still of the morning.\u00a0 Feeble attempts or advice (?) from those thinking my mind was racing too fast, perhaps.\u00a0 That I needed to be still.Do one thing.\u00a0 Be still. Too much. Spinning into-what I am not sure-but certainly not still.\u00a0 No sir.\u00a0 I find my stillness in other places-not in the center of my mind and not in the still\u00a0of my life.\u00a0 The churning keeps me still.\u00a0 The spinning sets me right round.\u00a0 Baby, right round.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/untitled.bmp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-628\" title=\"untitled\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/untitled.bmp\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>&#8230;&#8230;it is the abstract of my still life that keeps me moving.\u00a0 Glimpses here and there of stillness-that are just enough.
