{"id":475,"date":"2009-06-23T20:48:52","date_gmt":"2009-06-24T00:48:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/?p=475"},"modified":"2009-06-23T20:50:59","modified_gmt":"2009-06-24T00:50:59","slug":"real-scripted-reality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/2009\/06\/real-scripted-reality\/","title":{"rendered":"Real Scripted Reality."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/tv.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-477\" title=\"tv\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/tv.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"118\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a>Are we really going the way of reality TV being the real real?\u00a0 Reality TV shows are the new soap operas.\u00a0They have replaced\u00a0daytime dramas with drama all the time.\u00a0\u00a0Carefully unscripted scripted television that appeals to the masses.\u00a0With breaking news updates.\u00a0 It should be noted soaps are written for a 6th grade reading level&#8230;.6th grade.\u00a0 Bad guy, good girl, change roles, have a crisis,\u00a0 or an affair, or both,\u00a0get married( again), find a long lost twin, an evil sister, alter ego, unoperable brain tumor, new love, old flame, rinse, repeat.\u00a0 Repeat, repeat, repeat. Beautiful people with pregnant pauses, indicating gestures,\u00a0 speaking simply stated dialouge sprinkled with just the right amount of emotion.\u00a0 Cue music.<\/p>\n<p>And this is what reality TV is.\u00a0 Real people pretending to be on a soap opera.\u00a0 Pine Valley out, small town control freak of a \u00a0woman with an overactive uterus in.\u00a0 She bought in to her own (un) reality and so did everyone one else.\u00a0 Does it matter what it costs?\u00a0 Is it really all for ratings?<\/p>\n<p>Who knew drama, carefully crafted to appear even more real than it might be- would be the life so many wanted to live?\u00a0 And then what?\u00a0 Unknowns are the new celebrity, teeth whitened, hair highlighted, new identity fitted to a tee.\u00a0 The new celebrity. Quick with the make-over and the publicity team. Fed to the hungry- ready to build them up, spin it another way and pick them apart.<\/p>\n<p>And\u00a0then what?<\/p>\n<p>I like my actors real.\u00a0\u00a0 I want my story lines written to take me away from the everyday-or to another time-or for an understated genuine laugh.
