{"id":439,"date":"2010-05-02T21:49:21","date_gmt":"2010-05-03T01:49:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/?p=439"},"modified":"2010-05-02T21:51:21","modified_gmt":"2010-05-03T01:51:21","slug":"my-name-is-gloria-and-i-am-a-recovering-perfectionist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/my-name-is-gloria-and-i-am-a-recovering-perfectionist\/","title":{"rendered":"I Am Gloria and I am A Recovering Perfectionist."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is not easy.\u00a0 Peeling back the layers\u00a0of\u00a0this well seasoned onion is not a task I take on\u00a0lightly.\u00a0 Nor is it one I decided to do on a whim.\u00a0 Joining the ranks of the imperfect is not easy when striving for perfection\u00a0it is all you have known since you were old enough to know better.\u00a0 Not that I am being judgemental, mind you.\u00a0 Maybe even, I sort of envy those who have the ability to look at something, shrug their shoulders and say, &#8220;It&#8217;ll do.&#8221; And be done with it. Just like that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I am a woman of lists. Love them. Have been a list maker for a long, long time.\u00a0 But, if you were to look at my office, you would not see the\u00a0 typical signs of a type A list making professional.\u00a0 My office looks more like a blend of chaos and creativity.\u00a0 Like someone really organized threw up creative juices all over the place.<\/p>\n<p>I am quite sure I started out like this.\u00a0 Oldest child\u00a0with ingrained, incredibly strong work ethic.\u00a0 I started working when I was 14.\u00a0 Have not stopped since.\u00a0 But it is not all it&#8217;s cracked up to be.\u00a0I am not super\u00a0wealthy.\u00a0I do not live in a big house, I am not surgically enhanced -nor do I get weekly manicures; weekly anything really-unless you count my nap-which is not so weekly as it used to be.\u00a0 \u00a0I am not surrounded\u00a0 by all the droppings of a life lived\u00a0perfectly.\u00a0 Truth be told- I am sure I would never trade with the perfect ones.\u00a0 I find that life to be a few shakes short of a well blended spice.\u00a0 I am quite happy here in this brand new world of perfectly imperfect. \u00a0I find that I really kind of like it.\u00a0 My perfectly imperfect is okay.\u00a0 I can live with things that don&#8217;t get done.\u00a0 I can live with the things that don&#8217;t and never will get checked off one list or another.<\/p>\n<p>Perfection only gets you so far-and has lasting residual effects. \u00a0 My dentist says I grind my teeth at night( who knew?) and my doctor says I need to find ways to eliminate some of the stress in my life ( I know)-but I am not convinced these are solely attributed to my years on the path to perfection.\u00a0 I am not the typical perfectionist.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen worse.\u00a0 But, rather, I have that rare blend of let&#8217;s see what happens,mixed in with a pinch of follow the course and dash of path less taken-tied together with lots of paths less taken- and somehow I still got here.\u00a0 Not in shattered pieces-no not at all.\u00a0 I know when to be lazy and when to see it all the way to the end.\u00a0 I know when to stop trying so darn hard-and when to give it just one more go.\u00a0 I am still learning-painstakenly when to know to back-off and leave it alone.\u00a0 The scab will help the\u00a0skin\u00a0heal.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/perfection.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-609\" title=\"perfection\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gloriacrist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/perfection.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"144\" height=\"94\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"al2fb_like_button\"><div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\n(function(d, s, id) {\n  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];\n  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;\n  js = d.createElement(s);
